An Auto Ride

Today, just like any other day, I left my place for the office. A normal walk to the station, boarding a packed-up train, switching to the metro toward Versova. Getting down and hopping into a shared auto.

Now here’s something totally unusual, the auto guy for some reason decided to take only two passengers. Trust me, how great it feels to not be squeezed between a 40-year-old aunty and a 45-year-old uncle. So okay, good things do happen.

Midway, I hear him say, "Voh toh chicken nahi khati, Gujarati hai na... isliye main jaake veg bhi bana leta hoon."
He said it with the broadest smile like she was sitting right there next to him.

So okay, interesting enough for me to take off my earphones. And my co-passenger did the same.
She looked at him, then at me. We shared a smile.

The driver kept going forward with the story, telling someone on the phone about her, how she works at ICICI and also works somewhere else part time. And how great she is with marketing. And trust me, hearing these terms for an auto driver was new to me. I definitely know it's the women who must have taught him all these, cause I know for a fact I only learn terms new to me this easily only from my women. And it was not about him knowing that; it's about the love he has for her .The fact that he's speaking so highly about her and how cutely he shared how proud he is of his woman. So the girl got off at her stop, paying the guy, and after a while, I got off too.  As I was paying, he asked me, You both weren't together? I told him no, we weren't.

Now, what I assume is he thought we were together as we were the only ones waiting for an auto and maybe as a gesture he didn't pick up more passengers so we get some space. 

I mean, just thinking an auto driver could do something like that is unimaginable, but what can I say more than,
